SLPP wants to use ex-combatants but we will neutralize them this time
Written by Brima Turay, Associate Editor, The New Rising Sun, USA
Thursday, 26 March 2009

Reports coming from Freetown about the SLPP recruiting Ex-combatants and ex-Kamajor fighters and attempting to transport this group of God damned people to cause trouble in Freetown and, perhaps, the entire country should not be treated lightly. We cannot sit by and wait to see these unscrupulous and God-forsaken individuals derail the peace and tranquility for which so many Sierra Leoneans have had to sacrifice their lives to bring to fruition. The SLPP and their so-called leaders should be ashamed of themselves to even think of stealing power through the barrel of a gun this time around.

The memories of what the SLPP did in the past to return the party to power still remains

fresh in the minds of well meaning Sierra Leoneans. They had to disrupt the peace in 1967 and thwarted the APC from assuming the reigns of power after an election that was widely believed to have been won by Siaka Stevens and his opposition APC party. They attempted to shake their tails in 1977 and were annihilated by the APC. In 1987 they attempted a coup on then president Joseph Saidu Momoh in the name of a Francis Minah-led coup but failed woefully. In 1992, they sent the “Khaki Boys” NPRC (Samuel Sandi, Tom Nyumah, Maarda Bio, Solomon A.J Musa etc – sounds familiar?) to boot the APC out. A few years after, they played around Maarda Bio and some of the boys already mentioned above to kick Valentine Strasser out who, apparently, was just a bate that they had to use to usher the SLPP party back to power using every tactics imaginable under the sun to consolidate that power and ruin the nation. Not to talk about how much they encouraged and fuel the rebel war, evidence of which have been squarely traced to notable members of their party. In 1996, it was “WOO Teh- Teh” and we know how it all went down. In 2002, they applied the same crook methods to win the elections against Earnest Koroma. In 2007, John Benjamin and his cohorts attempted the same thing in the East and South of the county. This is a pattern that we are not going to tolerate this time.

Why does the SLPP think that they are the only ones that are qualified enough to rule the country? Why is it that they never believed in their power to organize and win an election without applying violence and crook methods? Here is a message for anyone who subscribes to the SLPP’s disgraceful ploy to gain power by the barrel – We will be watching you and if you ever try anything again this time around, we will mobilize Sierra Leoneans from all over the world and create a national force to make sure you, good for nothing people, do not succeed in bringing mayhem to the innocent people of this great nation. We will teach you how to accept defeat and if it means giving up our lives to make that possible, so be it. The legitimate government of President Earnest B. Koroma will serve its full term in office and if the people of Sierra Leone decide that the administration should be replaced, it would be in their power to do so in 2012 through the same peaceful means without the use of the barrel of a gun.

I can see that the propaganda machinery is failing the SLPP because the APC is good at challenging every falsehood and deceit with appropriate counter measures that are transparent and credible. Now that the propaganda has failed to yield anything substantial, the SLPP is attempting to apply the last bullets in their arsenals – clandestine, surreptitious and violent moves in the name of Kamajors and ex-combatants. They accuse the APC of using ex-combatants as bodyguards when they, the SLPP, have these blood thirsty hooligans in their backyards ready to obey every command that points to booting the APC out of power. Like I said, we are watching you very closely and we will make sure that you do not raise your heads to cause havoc again in this once peaceful nation in that sub-region.
